Honda's uses 4-stroke technology exclusively on all outboard models, ensuring a
smoother, quieter, cleaner operation, for a more enjoyable boating experience.
They are about 90% cleaner, 50% more fuel-efficient and 50% quieter than
typical two-stroke outboard motors that can release oil into the water.
Like all Honda engines, the marine models offer Ultra-Low Emissions. 4-stroke
designs, tighter tolerances, VTEC applications, dual stage induction systems and
lean burn control all contribute to Honda's class leading standards. All Honda outboards
carry the 2008 Ultra-low Emissions designation of the California Air Resources Board
(CARB) and meet or exceed the stringent 2006 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.
Honda continually progresses their line-up of marine engines by incorporating manufacturing processes and technologies from its advanced automotive and racing heritage. Honda's automotive Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift control (VTEC) technology has been integrated into the BF225, BF150, BF90 and more recently the BF75 as well. This exclusive feature enables broader usable powerbands, with increased fuel efficiencies and lowered emissions.
